Amazing weekend at Zone 2013

What a weekend it was! The end of May Bank Holiday Zone event at the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton was spectacular to say the least. The weather was dry & the Sunday at least, not too windy. The first day of competition saw the qualifying rounds take place. The 24 pilots were put into groups of 3 who flew against each other. The two top scoring pilots from each group would then be through to the knock-out rounds on the Monday.

Dave was up against tough competition in his group being drawn with Jonathon Boission (top French pilot & brother to Dunkan Boission, last year's finalist) & also Stuart Mott, the UK's top 3D pilot. Stuart experienced a 'dumb thumbs' moment (proves it can happen to the best of pilots) when he was flying against Dave which meant that Dave was through to the final 16 & the knock-out rounds.

Unfortunately the luck of draw was against us as in the first round on the Monday, Dave was drawn against last year's winner & the eventual winner of Zone 2013, Jamie Robertson. It was a brilliant weekend & we were treated to some spectacular flying from some of the world's top 3D pilots. Can't wait until next year!!
